Millennium part 2
Action Comics #1,000 just came out last week for Superman's 80th anniversary. Thirty years ago, Action Comics was approaching #600 for his 50th anniversary.
Last month's Millennium tie-ins made a complete story, but the second month of the crossover sees the Superman books each going their own way.
Superman and Green Lantern Hal Jordan travel through the barrier to find where the Guardians of the Universe and the Zamorans went at the of Green Lantern #200. There they find the Manhunters' leader, Highmaster. They're able to defeat him after Superman's heat vision turns Highmaster's yellow armor red and Green Lantern's ring is no longer handicapped by its weakness to the color yellow. Yeah, that really was a stupid weakness.
This story continues in Millennium #7.
Millennium week 7
This issue tells two stories: on the top of every page, Lex Luthor finds one of the new Guardians (from the main Millennium series) and tells her the story of a new villain named Combattor. On the bottom of every page, Lois Lane and Jose Delgado go on a date (narrated by Lois), which is interrupted by an attack from Combattor. In Lex Luthor's dishonest telling of the story, Superman kills the new villain. But in reality Jose Delgado changes into Gangbuster and defeats Combattor, but ends up paralyzed for life in the process. Superman confronts Lex at his office later with Gangbuster's helmet, but Lex of course denies any involvement.
This issue actually wraps up all the Superman Millennium tie-ins, so it's strange that it's not a tie-in itself. The Manhunters' takeover of Smallville would be revisited in the World of Smallville, but most of the effects from Millennium would never be mentioned again after that.
A young student named Jor El is distracted by a video of the historical battle for clone rights. His frustrated father Seyg El is trying to get his attention to tell him he's arranged a marriage for his son, presenting an image of Lara on the last page. We're finally getting to some familiar characters, at least in name.

Action Comics #597
This issue is not branded as a Millennium tie-in, although you wouldn't know it. Lois Lane drives to Clark Kent's hometown, Smallville, looking for Lana Lang who was last seen flying away from the Daily Planet (Superman #13). Lois finds the wreck of the Manhunters' flying saucer and then finds Superman with Lana Lang, who she finally meets again for the first time. Lois asks Superman if he's really Clark Kent, and then Ma and Pa Kent walk in and really complicate the story. They admit to being the ones who found Kal El's rocket and raising him as their own, but it seems too much of a stretch to make Lois believe Clark and Superman are two different people anymore. Missing the story of the century, Lois is more angry at Clark for not disclosing that he and Superman have been friends for years. Later at a diner, Lana reveals to Lois that Clark is really in love with Lois, but Lois goes back to Metropolis to visit Jose in the hospital. Superman finds her there and offers to give her a lift home, but she decides to walk instead. This issue actually wraps up all the Superman Millennium tie-ins, so it's strange that it's not a tie-in itself. The Manhunters' takeover of Smallville would be revisited in the World of Smallville, but most of the effects from Millennium would never be mentioned again after that.
