End of Year Two
The post-Crisis reboot enters its 3rd year. While Superman and Adventures of Superman each continue their own story lines, plot threads bleed into both series more seamlessly. This is starting to become the tighter continuity that would become characteristic of the post-Crisis era, particularly in the 90's
The Braniac-Luthor team that was popular in the Silver Age gets a modernization, and although I'm still not a fan of the Milton Fine version of Braniac, this pair's infighting makes it everything a super-villain team-up should be. The shock cover really does happen inside, even if it really didn't happen.
Elsewhere, Superman and Clark Kent are both being spied on by a man and woman working for Morgan Edge. Braniac is starting to mess with Lex Luthor's mind. We see Matrix recovering at the Kent farm for the first time since the end of the Supergirl Saga. And finally we see (from the point of view of Jack Kirby creation Dubbilex) an alien invasion approaching Earth that leads into DC's next big again called (what else?) Invasion.
Superman #25
Braniac (Milton Fine now believing himself fully possessed by Vril Dox) awakens from fighting Superman in a dream to find out Lex Luthor has operated on his brain, removing a tumor, increasing his power, and inserting a self-destruct fail safe. Braniac surrenders to Luthor and agrees to help him destroy Superman. At the Daily Planet, Clark Kent wakes up at his desk. After a nighmarish encounter with Lex Luthor where his identity is compromised, Alice wakes Clark again and he has a similar encounter with Braniac. Waking up a 3rd time, he leaves the building unable to trust reality. Superman flies to the hospital to find Milton Fine and they have a fight in which Braniac fakes his death. Now no longer under Luthor's control, Braniac creates chaos at Lexcorp and gets Lex to work with him as his equal. The Braniac-Luthor team that was popular in the Silver Age gets a modernization, and although I'm still not a fan of the Milton Fine version of Braniac, this pair's infighting makes it everything a super-villain team-up should be. Adventures of Superman #448
The hit man burned by the Lexcorp gun in the previous issue is threatening to jump off a building and Superman tries but can't talk him down. After Superman leaves, Gangbuster shows up and recklessly jumps off the ledge with him, then rescues him and takes him back to the ledge where the fugitive finally goes back inside. Superman is bothered that Gangbuster's vigilante tactics worked where his own methods failed.Elsewhere, Superman and Clark Kent are both being spied on by a man and woman working for Morgan Edge.
