Intergang Interlude

I know I said we wouldn't see Intergang again for several years, while we do get to see Mannheim and some of the other former members this month, this is not a return in any way.  None of the villains really do anything this month, mostly they lurk in the shadows.  In between bigger story lines, this month feels more like a break to catch up with the supporting cast.

Superman: The Man of Steel #7

Cerberus hires two new villains, Jolt and Blockhouse, to get revenge on Superman by targeting Lois Lane.

Clark Kent takes criticism from the union leader for not joining the picket line with the other Daily Planet employees during the strike, unbeknownst to his co-workers he was Superman lost with amnesia during that time.  Lois tries to stand up for Clark, which creates some tension between the two that's resolved by the story's end.

Jimmy Olsen is excited to find a chair left outside his building that matches the one he has in his place, until he discovers he's being evicted and the chair he found was his own.  Lucy Lane finds Jimmy outside his building trying to stop another homeless man from stealing his things, and rather than admit his situation to her he painfully breaks up with her to keep her from learning the truth.

Pete Ross and Lana Lang have been living as neighbors in the same Washington, D.C. building until the roof collapses in Lana's apartment, forcing her to move in with Pete.  Lana decides to stop throwing away her life on what will never happen with Clark and she makes her move on Pete.

Superman #63

Clark Kent and Cat Grant are on a boat in the ocean covering a story from Aquaman's current series about conflict between Atlantis and another country, when the ship is attacked by the plesiosaur from the Blackout story.  Clark pretends to fall overboard so he can change to Superman and save the ship, but one of the sailors he saves turns out to be Hans Schmidt, the man who nearly killed his mermaid ex-girlfriend Lori Lemaris (back in Superman #12).  Aquaman and Superman save the dinosaur from a submarine that's trying to attack the underwater city of Poseidonis.  Superman is knocked unconscious and saved from drowning and is rescued by none other than Lori Lemaris, who is revealed let Superman believe she had died so he could be happy with someone else.

Back in Metropolis, Lois takes advantage of Clark's absence to buy him a Christmas present while Jolt and Blockhouse spy on her.  Jimmy Olsen tries to sleep in his car but it snows and it drops to freezing temperatures.

Adventures of Superman #486

Although in the hospital with a broken neck and a full body cast, Intergang's new proxy leader Gillespie activates a robot named Purge to break into Stryker's Island Prison to kill Mannheim.  Superman flies Lois to Smallville to spend Thanksgiving with his parents.  Lois and Clark are called back to Metropolis because of the prison break.  Superman rips off the robots hands and stops it, but Mannheim hides the robot hands in his cell in case they come in handy later.

Jimmy Olsen wakes up in his car again, only this time to discover it was towed to the police impound lot while he was sleeping.  He goes to a homeless shelter for Thanksgiving, and gets a picture of Purge that he thinks he may be able to sell later if he can develop the film.  Lucy Lane happens to be volunteering at the shelter and sees Jimmy and realizes he's homeless.  After her volunteer shift, Lucy goes to her parents' for Thanksgiving, which is also where Lois and Clark are now.

Action Comics #673

Lucy Lane reveals to the family that Jimmy is homeless, and Lois and Clark feel awful that they were unaware of what had happened to their friend.  Jimmy celebrates Thanksgiving at Bibbo's Ace 'o Clubs, where generous Bibbo lets Jimmy call his mom and pays to develop his film.

Lex Luthor II celebrates Thanksgiving with the Lexcorp board of directors, but one disgruntled board member seeks out the villain named Hellgrammite who agrees to dispose of Luthor for him.

Mannheim uses the robot's parts to activate a boom tube to escape from prison.  But Superman, who had been racking where the robot came from, finds Mannheim's hideout and overpowers him.  Mannheim tries to open another boom tube to get away, but Superman cuts the circuit as he's transporting, leaving nothing but a small pile of ash.

Lastly, Lana Lang and Pete Ross start to send out wedding invitations to their friends.
