Lori Lemaris Returns!
Clark Kent's college girlfriend, the telepathic mermaid Lori Lemaris, returns. Lori has appeared only two previous times in post-Crisis continuity; in her first appearance she was presumed dead, and then a few years later it was revealed she was really still alive and married, but keeping herself hidden from Clark to allow him to find happiness with another person. This time she'll stick around for a brief period as a regular cast member as the books start to focus a lot more on relationships. Lori was one of the sillier relics from pre-Crisis continuity, but the old-fashioned love triangles are being re-tooled to resemble the TV show Friends, which was hugely popular at this time.
At the hospital, Ron Troupe is trying to interview a mugging victim who was saved by Demolitia, but when Lucy Lane arrives he learns she's also a friend of the victim. Ron doesn't want to use Lucy to get a story, but they leave to get a coffee together.
In Metropolis, Superman fights a reptilian monster, named Brawl because that seems to be the only word it can speak.
Bibbo's old boxing manager happens to bump into Bibbo at his bar, the Ace 'o Clubs, where a fight breaks out. After defeating Brawl, Superman tries to break up the bar fight but accidentally gets punched in the face by Bibbo.
Alpha Centurion is tired of picking homeless people off his ship in the park and decides to park it on top of the Daily Planet, which he knows will irritate Lois Lane. And for no apparent reason, the ghost of Elvis appears in the Daily Planet news room.
On the last page, a nude woman climbs onto a pier out of the icy waters of Hob's Bay. As people do in comics, Lori Lemaris announces herself in the 3rd person even though there's no one else around.
Lori was transformed by the magic of her sorcerer husband, Ronal, who follows her to Metropolis and attacks the city with a giant octopus. Superman suspects Ronal is being turned evil by his magic staff. He removes the diamond from Lois' engagement ring and throws it through the staff, destroying it but also turning Ronal into stone. With her husband now dead, Lori is conveniently single again.
Lois reluctantly agrees to let Lori stay with her until she gets settled, but that night she agrees to give Alpha Centurion a Friday night interview at her place. At GBS, Jimmy complains that Lucy is out with some "friend" so he goes on a date with his make-up girl Dana.
