Crisis in Kandor
Superman goes inside the Bottle City of Kandor for the first time since it appeared in the post-Crisis era. In Superman's absence, Scorn takes over as the new Man of Steel in Metropolis.
Jimmy Olsen gets his interview with Professor Hamilton, but the Professor soon regrets giving him too much information. While Superman and Metallo fight again, Jimmy explains on the air how Superman's new powers work. Unfortunately, Metallo is also tuning in to the live broadcast, so Jimmy basically tells the villain how to beat Superman.
This fight is nearly a repeat of what we saw last month, as Metallo constructs a gigantic body out of an aircraft carrier. Superman enlarges himself to giant size and drains the nuclear power from Metallo's body, leaving nothing but an empty skull. Unable to contain all the power, Superman flies into space and explodes in a mushroom cloud.
After missing so much work with no explanation, Franklin Stern fires Clark as managing editor of the Daily Planet. But before Stern can appoint Simone as Clark's replacement, Perry White storms in and demands his job back now that his cancer is in remission.
Drawn by some inexplicable compulsion, Scorn breaks into the Kent's apartment and finds Superman's old costume hanging in the closet. To me it's a little concerning that a newcomer to the city who doesn't even speak the language deduced Clark Kent's secret identity so quickly. Even worse, Lois and Clark didn't seem to notice the break-in or the missing costume.
At Professor Hamilton's laboratory, Superman and the Professor observe the Bottle City of Kandor through a live feed from the Fortress of Solitude. They're disturbed the civil unrest they see and Superman calls the Atom for help in shrinking down to fit inside the Bottle City. In this period, the Atom was reverted to a teenager during Zero Hour and has become the leader of a (mostly forgettable) new team of Teen Titans. The Atom hopes working with Superman again will help him get into the new JLA.
Superman, Professor Hamilton, and the Atom take one of the Professor's inventions to get to the Fortress in the Arctic. The Atom refers to them as Kandor's Batman and Robin, a reference to the Nightwing and Flamebird identities pre-Crisis Superman and Jimmy Olsen adopted when they visited Kandor. The two heroes shrink down and enter Kandor, where they're immediately greeted by hostile troops called oxymoronically called Peacekeepers.
Back in Metropolis, Scorn is now wearing Superman's old costume and finds the girl he's been looking for, Dirk Armstrong's daughter Ashbury.
Distracted by seeing Scorn in Centennial Park, a Special Crimes Unit transport gets in an accident and the villain Rock breaks free. The blind girl Ashbury mistakes Scorn for Superman, and persuades Scorn to stop Rock's rampage. Scorn's story line isn't really all that interesting, right now he only really serves as a character to appease the fans who miss the traditional Superman costume.

While hunting for the fugitive Metallo, Superman encounters a new cybernetic villain named Scareware who will be a recurring bad guy in the next few months.Jimmy Olsen gets his interview with Professor Hamilton, but the Professor soon regrets giving him too much information. Superman #124
Watching the explosion from the ground, Booster Gold flies into the sky to try to see if Superman could have survived. He finds the empty containment suit in the upper atmosphere, but no trace of Superman. In the process of helping Superman reconfigure inside the suit without destroying it, Booster Gold's own armor is overloaded and destroyed. Booster falls to the ground but Superman catches him just in time. Now that this is the second suit Booster Gold has lost while helping Superman (the first was during the fight with Doomsday), Superman and Professor Hamilton help Booster by designing a new costume with the leftover fabric used to make Superman's new suit. After missing so much work with no explanation, Franklin Stern fires Clark as managing editor of the Daily Planet. Adventures of Superman #547
Superman gets up early to practice using his powers. While trying to see how far he can travel in a single lightning burst, he ends up in Nova Scotia, where he meets a cyclist named Sean Jordan who I guess was a fan who won a contest to appear in this issue. Since then, Sean Jordan has become a Canadian hip hop artist known as Wordburglar, and has also produced his own comics like the Last Paper Route. At Professor Hamilton's laboratory, Superman and the Professor observe the Bottle City of Kandor through a live feed from the Fortress of Solitude. Action Comics #734
The Atom and Superman meet a blue-skinned, female resistance fighter named Faern who helps them get away from the Peacekeepers. The Atom forgets that the city is miniature and he's not full size, and realizes he can actually grow in size in Kandor. Superman is captured and taken to the Peacekeeper's headquarters, but the Atom and Faern rescue him. Not all is as it seems with Faern, however: when Superman first touches her, he gets an electric shock; and the Atom observes that she's wise beyond her years.Distracted by seeing Scorn in Centennial Park, a Special Crimes Unit transport gets in an accident and the villain Rock breaks free.
