Identity Crisis
Identity Crisis was DC's first event in years, although it didn't have that many tie-ins. The only Superman tie-in occurred after the mini-series had already ended. This was DC's first "crisis" event since Crisis on Infinite Earths, but another Crisis was coming in a few months and its reach would be felt across the whole universe.
Superman/Batman #16
The death of one of them sends them into another world, until they end up on Apokalips with Darkseid, Metron, the Demon, and Kingdom Come Superman. Darkseid tells them the same words Batman had told him the last time they met, "What good is being a king if there is no kingdom?" Superman and Batman agree to go back in time and stop the Legion of Super-villains from altering their origins, but presented with the opportunity Batman saves his parents from being murdered and shoots Joe Chill instead.
Superman/Batman #17
Absolute Power part 4
After skipping a month before the start this arc, Superman/Batman ships twice this month.
Superman now finds himself in another alternate world without a Batman, where the villain Ra's Al Ghul was able to conquer the world. DC's World War 2 characters like Sgt. Rock, the Haunted Tank, and the Blackhawks hunt down heroes in the middle of the city, shooting at the Daily Star to try to hit Superman. Superman goes to Wayne Manor to find his old friend Bruce, and meets the living Thomas Wayne. Superman takes Bruce to Crime Alley to force him to remember the night his destiny was changed. Superman and Batman dig up the dead bodies of the Justice League and take them to a Lazarus Pit to bring them back to life. The resurrected Justice League (Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter) attacks Ra's Al Ghul's lair, but when they get inside they discover Ra's had help from the Legion of Super-villains.Superman #213
At this point, I've lost the plot of For Tomorrow but I stopped caring. In the Middle East, Mr. Orr magically binds the witch Halcyon with his two dogs and demands she give him her knife. In Metropia, Kal El is reunited with his Kryptonian parents, Jor El and Lara. The Vanishing is apparently supposed to be an escape plan compared to Kal El's rocket ship or the Phantom Zone, which saved Kryptonians from the destruction of Krypton.Adventures of Superman #636
In a tie-in to Identity Crisis, Superman brings Batman and Wonder Woman to the Fortress of Solitude where they tell Wonder Woman about how the Justice League had mind-wiped Dr. Light years ago when he had raped Sue Dibney. Wonder Woman, at this time blinded by recent events in her own series, tells them they should have killed Dr. Light, and she tells Kal that he should kill Ruin now, too. After she leaves, Batman asks Clark who else but Luthor could know so much about him, and elsewhere we see a meeting between Luthor and Ruin. The relationships between the Trinity will become even more strained in the coming months as Infinite Crisis approaches and Wonder Woman's philosophy on capital punishment is put to the test. While Clark is away, former Vice President Pete Ross comes to visit Lois Lane while he's trying to find Lana Lang. Lt. Leocadio brings Professor Emil Hamilton from S.T.A.R. Labs to help her locate Ruin.
Action Comics #823
The Repo Man throws Superman from Smallville all the way to St. Louis. He didn't even realize he had been fighting Superboy when he threw him through the Kent farmhouse. Even Krypto joins the fight until Superman rushes back and pounds the Repo Man into a crater. The Repo Man loses his hulking size and powers, and Superman knocks him unconscious with a flick of his fingers. After the fight, however, Superboy and Jonathan Kent notice that Superman looks noticeably older now, with gray hair around his temples. After a makeshift repair, the Kents resume their Christmas dinner. Lana and Lois start to argue, and Ma Kent scolds them both, telling Lana to get over Clark and Lois to be a more supportive wife.
Back in Metropolis, Doomsday lurks in the streets alone. Jimmy Olsen infiltrates Preus' white supremacist headquarters, and finds the defeated Martian Manhunter held prisoner on a cross in front of a fire.
