Superman or Angel?

The first "book" of Camelot Falls ended last month, and the next issue is a one-shot interlude.  Though we're starting to see story arcs that are intentionally written to be collected in trade paperback, this is still an older long-form storytelling that still appealed to monthly readers.

Superman #659

In the Fortress of Solitude, Superman contemplates recent events and what Arion of Atlantis had told him last issue.  Wondering if his presence is holding back humanity's progress, Superman flashes back to an encounter with an elderly woman he had saved in Suicide Slum.  The woman named Barbara Johnson believes Superman is an angel, and she starts to believe that her prayers can bring Superman to help.  Barbara Johnson starts to seek out crime and actively puts herself in harms way.  Though Superman still tries to save her each time, he knows he can't always be there.  One night she confronts a local gang while Superman is fighting an electromagnetic creature in Antarctica.  He can't come back to save her in time and she is shot, but the shooting shocks the neighborhood and Suicide Slum ends up being cleaned up through her activism.  Though Superman had tried to tell Barbara he was just a man, from her hospital bed she asks how can he not be an angel?

Action Comics #846

Last Son part 3

After escaping from the Phantom Zone, General Zod, Ursa, and Non find the Fortress of Solitude which they're easily able to access because of their Kryptonian biology.  At their request, the hologram of Jor El tells them the backstory of Zod and reintroduces other Phantom Zone criminals, like Jax-Ur and Quex-Ul in flashback.

In Metropolis, Lois and Clark are preparing to introduce the Krptonian child as their own adopted son, Christopher, when the Daily Planet is suddenly attacked by Zod and his acolytes.  General Zod frees the other Kryptonian criminals and then uses the Phantom Zone projector to send Superman into the extra-dimensional void of the Phantom Zone.

Superman/Batman #32

Enemies Among Us part 5

Batman uses the black rock to overpower Superman and Supergirl, who are under the influence of an alien armada that's approaching Earth.  After the encounter with Batman, Superman stops at the rooftop of the Daily Planet to tell Lois he doesn't belong in this world.  Lois persuades him that the people of Earth really did adopt him, and the armada's control over him is broken.  Other aliens start to gather in Metropolis, except for Lobo who seems to be above their influence.  Superman goes to the Bat Cave to find Batman and free him from the black rock's control.  Meanwhile, black rocks start to fall like hail in Metropolis, Jimmy Olsen touches one and is possessed, and Lois realizes that the alien armada has arrived.
