The Art of the Prank

Action Comics was delayed this month, and although it would return next month with a fill-in story, Richard Donner's Last Son story wouldn't resume until months later.

Superman #660

In a self-contained story in between books I and II of Camelot Falls, Superman's villain the Prankster takes center stage.  An aspiring supervillain calling himself Nitro G hires the Prankster to distract Superman while he robs a bank.  Nitro G expects the Prankster to keep helping him, and threatens him if he doesn't.  Though the Prankster seems to help Nitro G on his next heist, the Prankster turns on him and shows him that even with his silly gimmicks he's not somebody to be messed with.  Superman has to save Nitro G from this prank, and the Prankster gets away in the end.  The publicity the Prankster gets from this adventure appears to attract an even bigger client.  The Prankster would be seen again when Camelot Falls resumes.

Superman/Batman #33

While Superman battles Batman who's possessed by the black rock, Lex Luthor finds out that the villain Despero is the one manipulating the aliens who have been controlling all the extraterrestrials on Earth.  Despero explains to Lex that the aliens are remarkably moral and only take worlds away from species they deem unworthy.  Superman is free of the aliens' control and frees Batman from the black rock's control.  Superman tries to persuade the aliens that Despero has been lying to them about mankind, and by getting Batman to trust the aliens he succeeds.  Without speaking a word, the aliens release Kilowog and the other aliens they had been controlling, and then they leave Earth.
