Intermezzo

Action Comics and Superman both feel like their ongoing stories are interrupted at this point.  Action Comics is suffering from unplanned delays, while Superman has a self-contained story before the second book of Camelot Falls resumes.  But even if that story was planned, it still reads and feels like a fill-in issue.  Superman/Batman takes a month off as has become the norm after a story arc wraps up.

Action Comics #847

Dwayne McDuffie and Renato Guedes fill in an issue while Richard Donner's "Last Son" story continues to be delayed.

Ma and Pa Kent hear the news that their son has disappeared while fighting Zod's army of Kryptonian criminals.  Jonathan assures Martha that their son will be alright, and tells her a story of how one time, when he and Clark were supposed to have gone fishing, Superman took him on an adventure into outer space.  What started as a simple trip, however, gets complicated when Superman gets a distress call from a planet whose sun is about to be devoured by a Sun Eater.  Although Superman had previously encountered a Sun Eater in the Final Night, Pa Kent doesn't seem to have any knowledge of that.

Superman #661

To rehabilitate her public image after killing Max Lord in Infinite Crisis, Wonder Woman makes a personal appearance for a charity that helps women in need called the Jadis Foundation.  It turns out the charity was founded by Khyrana the Accursed, a Greek woman who had been cursed by Zeus after spurning his sexual advances.  For telling Zeus she didn't need a man, he cursed her to need to touch men to drain them of their life, which in turn has kept her immortal for centuries.  When she finds Superman, she drains more power than she ever knew, and she takes him with her to continue to use him.  Wonder Woman and Lois track Khyrana down and offer to help her, but she refuses.  The combined power of Superman and Wonder Woman defeats Khyrana, and Wonder Woman still wants to try to find a cure for her curse.  Diana goes with Lois and Clark to their apartment, where the two heroes pass out from exhaustion on the couch.
